My baby.
Got hit by a cab while cruising through Chelsea last summer & this beauty saved my foot!
Only thing that needed replacing were the rear trucks :)
Looking forward to getting back on the streets once the weather gets warmer!!

my horoscope and conversations about cannabis

It’s time for you to pull in the reins and take control of your life, especially if you have recently acquiesced to an authority. Now it’s your turn to play the role of the heavyweight. Fortunately, you can do this with compassion; there’s no need to be mean to anyone. It’s crucial, though, for you to stand up for yourself; if you don’t do it, no one else will.

The last line, I feel is appropriate for all.

At work last night, my co-workers were chatting about personality flaws. While one mentioned their habit of smoking ganja was their biggest flaw the other countered with ‘smoking isn’t a flaw, it’s a habit. A flaw would be something like people pleasing’.

That statement immediate struck a chord in me for that is my ultimate flaw. And although I recognize that, I still always find myself in moments of my life where my priority seems to be making sure everyone around me is happy, yet while on my chronic unavailing quest of pleasing those around me, I then lose myself and end up struggling for positive energy and my own happiness. This is when I need to take a stand for myself because no one else will.

Now that’s not because those around me don’t love me or don’t care but just as they are the only one’s responsible for their own happiness, I am the only one responsible for mine.

Now just a little while back I wrote about how my favorite yoga teacher always said “if you ask yourself ‘where would you like to be right now?’, and the answer is anything other than ‘Here’ then you need to change something.” It’s only when we are truly happy in the place where we are in life that we can allow ourselves to be open to the wonders that the universe has to offer us.

I obviously have not been keeping this thought close to my heart because for the last three or four weeks I have found myself on a roller coaster ride of emotions and not really sure which direction I am going. I am realizing as I write this, that maybe this is my time to just be still. We are not always having to move forward. And by recognizing that I innately take a step :)

Invisible Spikes

I did not write this but I feel very compelled to share. I hope that you will not only read this but actually absorb the words below.

They say that there are two kinds of people in the world.

The first kind of person, others feel really happy when they enter the room. The second kind, others feel really happy when they leave the room!

Its almost like all of us have invisible spikes coming out from us. For some people these spikes are really long and sharp. They have strong likes and dislikes and freely share judgement, criticism and negativity with everyone they meet. They moment they enter the room, people go “ouch!”

Others have shorter spikes. Most people are like this. They are okay to get along with so long as you don’t rub them up the wrong way. Else their spikes are immediately raised like that of a porcupine!

Some other people have very small and soft spikes. They are great fun to be with. Everyone loves them. They are the light of the family, of the office and community. They are genuinely interested in others welfare and freely share smiles, love, appreciation and do thoughtful acts for others. However if you get really really close to them and push the wrong buttons and you may still get hurt…just like the tiny splinters in straw can still hurt the hands.

Then there are the rare people in the world with NO spikes. No matter how you treat them and what you do there is NO resistance. These are the love masters in our world, great spiritual examples to us all. It does not mean such a person is a vegetable who anyone can cut. They respond appropriately to each situation…sometimes constructive criticism and strong words may issue from them. Yet it comes with the power of love and has a transformational energy. Their spikes have been replaced by rays of light, like a sun!

People do not love us for our goodness. They love us for our patience and forebearance. Where there is judgement there is no love. Where there is love there is no judgement.

Let us pull back our invisible spikes for today, and replace them with rays of love and light, offering our finest smile to everyone we encounter. Then others will love to have you in the room and always keep you in their hearts.

Be happy!

The only time wasted is when we are not loving.

i needed this today:

It is easy to wallow in the dark. It is a brave choice to be happy. When we are feeling discouraged and weak, then our medicine is to encourage others and give them strength. We are born to be uplifters. We are here to give support and love abundantly…and also learn to receive support and love wholeheartedly.

Together let us grow in clear awareness, drench the heart in boundless love and make everyday “The Happiest Day of Our Life!” May we awaken the heart of compassion and show kindness through simple actions.

humans vs. sharks

There is no animal on earth more vilified than the shark. Pop culture references and annual, over-hyped reports of attacks on swimmers or surfers have put sharks on the top of the list of the world’s most feared living things.

There is however, a creature far more predacious than the shark: Humans.

Sharks existed before there were dinosaurs and they pre-date humans by millions of years. Yet, in a relatively short period of time, humans and their technological arsenal have driven most shark populations to the verge of extinction.

The fate of the shark is grim. Increasing public awareness of the shark’s role in the marine ecosystem and the rapid rate of extinction because of the demand for shark fin soup may be the best hope for the shark, which has inhabited the planet for 400 million years.

Can you imagine if it was Yellowstone Park and people were shooting up grizzlies? No one would ever get away with it. But this ocean, because it’s out of sight, out of mind, [shark finning] carries on.
